Cooling System Problems in European Automobiles

European automobiles can have the same cooling system problems all automobiles can have. The best way to avoid problems with the cooling system is to have it serviced every 30,000 miles. This gives us a chance to make sure the cooling system in your European automobile is healthy. Let’s talk about common cooling system problems in European and other automobiles.

Leaking Systems

It’s easy for an older cooling system that has not been serviced to start leaking. Coolant can leak from many different cooling system parts, including the radiator, the water pump, the thermostat, the radiator hoses, and the overflow reservoir. A leaking cooling system will make your European automobile overheat because there will not be enough coolant in the engine.

Clogged Systems

A 30,000-mile cooling system service allows us to flush the dirt and grime that has built up inside your European automobile’s cooling system. If the system gets clogged, the coolant will be unable to circulate throughout the engine. This will allow portions of the engine to overheat, and this overheating will become a continual problem. It’s better to have the cooling system serviced.

Dead Thermostat

If your European vehicle is 10 years old or older, you may end up with a dead thermostat in the cooling system. Consequently, the engine will overheat because the thermostat will not release the coolant to the water pump for circulation. If your engine overheats within 10 minutes of starting the European automobile, the thermostat is most likely dead and needs to be replaced.

Dead Water Pump

The water pump can also die after 10 years or more. Without a pump, the coolant will not flow through the engine. Unfortunately, this means, again, that the European vehicle will overheat when you drive it. Thankfully, replacing the water pump with a new one is not a difficult repair. As such, we can get you back out on the road quickly with a new water pump and a cool engine.

Radiator Trouble

Finally, all vehicles, whether European or otherwise, will eventually need a new radiator. The radiator deals with liquid all the time. As such, the bottom of the radiator can rust. When this happens, the radiator usually starts to leak. The radiator fins can also get clogged with dirt and grime, and the radiator fan can malfunction if it is too old.

There’s no need to worry. We are European service and repair experts and we can repair your cooling system so your Beemer, Benz, or other European automobile no longer overheats.
