You can damage your truck’s axle by ignoring the need for suspension repair. You can also damage the axle if you get into an automobile accident or drive over an extreme bump too fast. You must bring the truck to our shop immediately to avoid breaking the axle completely.
No Tire Movement
The axle is already broken if you cannot get your truck’s tires to spin. This could be the front axle or the rear axle. The wheels and tires are spun when you press down on the accelerator via a power transfer from the engine to the transmission. A broken axle will prevent any motion from the tires. You may get some tire motion if the axle is bent or cracked.
Power Loss
In this case, your truck will strain to move forward as the tires strain to turn. The transmission will send power to the drivetrain to move it, but there will be resistance from the damaged axle, creating a power strain in the truck. Consequently, your truck may lurch forward or only move slowly forward. You will hear the power strain, as well.
Undercarriage Noises
In addition to hearing the power strain, you may hear banging or clunking noises from the truck’s undercarriage. These noises will be deafening when you turn around corners. It’s best not to drive your truck when the axle is damaged.
Vibration/Wobbling
Perhaps one axle is only cracked, and the wheels are turning relatively well. As you pick up speed, your truck will vibrate or wobble. This is also a sign that you have a problem with one of the truck’s axles, most likely bending or cracking.
Misaligned Brake Pads
If the axle is bent, the brake pads may no longer be aligned with the rotors. You need this alignment for the two brake system parts to generate friction. Unfortunately, a bent axle can misalign the brake pads and cause braking problems.
Differential Leak
Finally, whether your truck has AWD or 4WD, the differential oil can leak if the axle is damaged. You will see the leak underneath the truck rather than closer to the engine. We would be happy to replace your truck’s axle, so call us today to schedule an appointment that suits your schedule.
